Introduction to the evening news 15-01-2013

For the first time, an uncontrolled urge to know which electoral law will result from the ongoing discussions emerges, and the reason behind this urge is that no party is able to pass the draft law to which its aspires because of the exchange of vetoes which occurs every time a proposal is presented.                  

In this context, the Orthodox gathering’s proposal received the approval of three major Christian parties, but was hit by a total rejection from the Future Movement and the Progressive Socialist Party. Accordingly, if it is so difficult to approve such draft law, what alternative will ensure fair representation?              

The parties rejecting the Orthodox proposal do not have an alternative, while the President also reiterated his objection when he called for discussing the cabinet’s proposal and making the necessary amendments without violating the constitution.               

However, in Ain al-Tineh, Speaker Nabih Berri began to “turn the ball of electoral draft laws” after receiving the report of the parliamentary sub-committee.                      

Meanwhile, the wave of assassinations reached Iraq where a Sunni deputy was murdered, forty-eight hours after an assassination attempt targeted the Iraqi Finance Minister who belongs to the same political bloc as the murdered deputy.                  

On the Syrian level, Russia refused to refer the Syrian file to the International Criminal Court.
