Introduction to the evening news 16-01-2013

A tragic story was added today to the diary of the refugees. Syrian national Mohammad Malsi who fled from the camp of Yarmouk in Syria and headed to Ain El-Helwe refugee camp in Lebanon, left his home for the last time. He has promised his family to bring food to the table and when he failed to keep his promise, he committed suicide.  

Mohammad Malsi used to work in a textile factory to earn his living back in Syria but now he was left with no choice but to put an end to his life.  

Meanwhile, thousands of refugees are still bearing the difficult life conditions, hoping they won’t share the same fate.    

In Turkey, the Syrian refugees who are currently living in the Kelis refugee camp will be holding democratic elections to select members to represent them and be in charge of the camp and its residents.    

In Lebanon, democracy is hindered. While the electoral law proposed by the Orthodox Gathering “dismissed” the 60’s law, Speaker Nabih Berri is still holding talks with the MPs to try to reach a consensus over a law that would be approved by all Lebanese parties.
