Future bloc MPs launch new electoral proposal

Future bloc MPs Ahmad Fatfat, Atef Majdalani, Jean Ogassapian and Ghazi Youssef held on Monday a press conference to launch the electoral draft law proposed by the Future Movement.

Fatfat explained the content of the proposal that suggests dividing the current 26 electoral districts into 37 smaller districts.Fatfat added that the Future Movement suggests the amendment of article 128 of the Lebanese Constitution for the formation of a Senate where all sects are represented, as a prelude for the abolition of sectarian representation in the Parliament.

According to Fatfat, the Interior Ministry is ready to conduct the parliamentary elections on June 9th according to the majoritarian system since the other electoral proposals require further preparations.

In this context, MP Ali Fayyad commented on the proposal and said that Hezbollah is committed to the proportional representation system.

Separately, Future MPs denounced the “sectarian statements” that were delivered following the death of army members in Arsal ambush on Friday.
