Policeman killed as van transporting inmates overturns on Dora highway

One policeman was killed and 17 inmates were injured when a van transporting prisoners overturned on the western route of the Dora highway towards Karantina on Monday morning resulting in a massive traffic jam all the way to Jal el-Dib.

The inmates waited inside the locked truck for over an hour and a half until they were transferred to another truck.

The accident also caused traffic on the road linking Dora to Nahr el-Kalb and all the way to downtown Beirut.

Security forces rushed to the scene to prevent the escape of prisoners and the transfer of the wounded to nearby hospitals.
