US Envoy affirms importance of diplomatic solution, stresses potential truce in Gaza does not necessarily extend to Lebanon

On Monday, US envoy Amos Hochstein affirmed the United States' recognition that a diplomatic solution is "the only way to end the current hostilities along the Blue Line that will achieve a lasting fair security arrangement between Lebanon and Israel."

From Ain el Tineh, he stated that both the Lebanese and Israeli people "have the right to live in peace and prosperity."

"Let me acknowledge the unity of this position globally. My visit today represents the United States' commitment to reaching a diplomatic solution. This effort, however, is not solely American. We are collaborating with our global partners to explore ways to enhance our efforts to promote prosperity and stability in Lebanon," he said on Monday.

Hochstein highlighted the importance of international support for Lebanon and its people in any potential agreement, aiming to strengthen institutions, including the military, and support the economy.

He emphasized that the United States continues to work with the Lebanese Government to find a diplomatic solution that will ensure prosperity and security along the Blue Line and "to end this round of violence that began on October 8."

While noting the efforts of the United States and other regional countries to secure a ceasefire deal in Gaza, including hostage release, Hochstein pointed out that such efforts do not automatically apply to southern Lebanon.

"That is why we are here today: to engage in discussions and explore possible arrangements here in Lebanon," he added.

"The ceasefire does not automatically extend to Lebanon," he concluded.
