REPORT: UCC proceeds in its strike, calls for referring pay scale to parliament

Head of the Secondary Teachers Union Hanna Gharib expressed on Saturday his concern that discussions pertaining to the formation of a supervisory commission for elections would put aside discussions related to the pay scale.

In this context, Gharib called on Prime Minister Najib Mikati to set the session scheduled on the 21st of March only to refer the series of ranks and salaries to the parliament.

During the protest of the Union Coordinating Committee near the finance ministry's revenues building, Gharib rejected the violation of the UCC’s rights and called for referring the pay scale to the parliament.

The Union Coordinating Committee launched its open ended strike on February 19th 2013 after making repeated called on Prime Minister Mikati to validate the new salary scale and consequently refer it to Parliament for ratification.
