MP Kanaan: Forming the electoral supervisory committee is unconstitutional

Change and Reform Bloc MP Ibrahim Kanaan said on Monday that the bloc is against voting for the formation of the electoral supervisory committee tasked to oversee electoral campaigns, "since this approach is unconstitutional."

MP Kanaan told LBCI during Nharkom Said that all factions will eventually be heading toward the General Authority to vote on an electoral law. "The failure to do so will lead to two choices; extending the parliament’s mandate or otherwise face political void."

In response to Lebanese President Michel Sleiman who had bewailed the Orthodox Gathering draft law, describing it as "satanic", MP Kanaan said the Orthodox Gathering’s electoral law will retrieve the rights of the Christian community in Lebanon.

“Is it possible that he who is entrusted with the constitution accepts the “devil” and rejects us?” MP Kanaan said in reference to the President's acceptance of the 1960's law.
