Sheikh Assad Assi: Sedition is in full bloom

President of the Alawite Islamic Council, Assad Assi, said that strife and sedition are now in full bloom following the attacks that targeted 4 Sunni clerics in Beirut, calling on the three top officials, Army Commander General Jean Kahwaji, Interior Minister Marwan Charbel as well as the Lebanese Internal Security Forces (ISF) Major General Ashraf Rifi to shoulder the incident’s responsibility.

Sheikh Assi pointed out in a press conference held on Thursday, that the Alawite community was among the first to condemn the assault on the Sheikhs, noting that inaction in this regard "allows the enemy to plant the seeds of sedition."

In this context, Sheikh Assi stressed that his sect supports the Lebanese Armed Forces that should defend all the country’s communities.

On another note, Sheikh Nabil Rahim responded to Sheikh Assi, and stated that tension in Lebanon's Tripoli is on a constant increase following the latest statements made by the Arab Democratic Party leader Refaat Eid.

In this regard, Sheikh Rahim denounced all the attacks that occurred in Tripoli, and highlighted the need to lay the foundations of security and stability in the city.
