REPORT: Fire blazes in plastics depot in Zouk Mikael

Civil Defense units are working on extinguishing a raging fire at the Assaf plastics and nylon depot in Lebanon's Zouk Mikael.

Evacuation operations are underway, seemingly since the depot is located in a seven storey residential building. Nearby buildings were also evacuated as a safety precaution.

Heavy thick black smoke is billowing from the site of the fire, spreading throughout the area.

Director General of the Civil Defense Brigadier General Raymond Khattar told LBCI that all efforts are being exerted to minimize losses and extinguish the blaze, pointing out that toxic fumes may pose a serious threat to the health of those who directly inhale it. He added that fire fighters who have entered the warehouse have dressed in a specialized suit, stressing that the flames are under control.

No injuries were reported so far.
