MP Salam's sources say he will resign if parliament's mandate is extended

Sources close to PM-Designate Tammam Salam quoted him on Wednesday as saying that his task is to hold the upcoming parliamentary elections on their due time adding that "if they want to extend the mandate of the parliament let them form a cabinet for this task".

According to the sources, PM-Designate Salam said that the cabinet will resign after holding the elections, adding that if the elections were not held then the mission of the cabinet would have failed.

The sources also quoted MP Salam as saying that when he became PM-Designate, he vowed to represent all parties unanimously in the cabinet.

Earlier, Italian Ambassador to Lebanon Giuseppe Morabito said that Italy would not interfere in internal Lebanese issues adding that his country supports Lebanon's stability.

Following a meeting held with PM-Designate Salam, Ambassador Morabito said that Italy praises the efforts exerted by PM-Designate Salam to form a new cabinet and hoped that Lebanese factions agree upon an electoral law to hold the upcoming parliamentary elections in accordance with the constitution.
