REPORT: Supporters of George Ibrahim Abdallah stage sit-in

                 
Security forces closed the road near the French embassy in Beirut as supporters of Georges Ibrahim  Abdallah staged a sit-in to protest the failure to release the Lebanese national. 

In this context, the Damascus road was also cut-off by the ISF to prevent protesters from reaching the location of the sit-in.                        

The detainee’s sister Salam Abdallah stressed that the trial is expected to take place today, calling on “the French authorities not to yield to the demands of the United States and to release him”.             

Similarly, George Abdallah’s brother, Joseph, stressed that they will keep on exerting pressure on the French administration in Lebanon, expressing solidarity with George Abdallah.
The French judiciary decided Thursday the 10th of January 2013 to release Abdallah "provided he be deported", AFP reported, however the decision was deferred for no explained reason.                     

Abdallah was jailed 28 years ago for attacks on U.S. and Israeli diplomats in France, even though French law limits the maximum sentence of any prisoner to 18.                     

He was accused of engaging in commando operations carried out by the Lebanese Armed Revolutionary Factions and the 1982 murders of U.S. military attache Charles Robert Ray and Israeli diplomat Yacov Barsimantov; the court was not able to present concrete evidence against him in this regard so far.                    

The General prosecution has previously appealed the decision of his release.
