Aoun: 2013 elections the last opportunity to bring about change and reform
Change and Reform Bloc MP Michel Aoun said on Sunday that “the 2013 elections are the last opportunity to bring about change and reform after which a complete collapse will take place.”

“The key to reform begins with bringing people to power who abide by the laws,” he added.

During a conference in Kfarhazir, Koura, Aoun said that, in 2005, he believed “the revolution is real and that the Lebanese have revolted against their masters, but it turned out to be just the opposite”, adding that “a global war was waged against me; and I am now certain that this country lacks political and reformist thinking.”

“When Israel steps onto the field everyone shies away; this was proven in current exchanges,” he added.

Aoun confirmed that the U.N. has not implemented any resolution taken against Israel, adding that “the sole resolution implemented was 425 and was carried out by the resistance in 2000.”

“Every time we have appealed to the cabinet to carry out reform, our request was not heeded and they thought that this was a political slogan. We are not that kind of people. Lebanese are bored with all these words such as reform, change, freedom and sovereignty; however, we mean these words, we paid the price for these ideals which we will not renounce.”

In closing,  Aoun voiced surprise over the debts that Lebanon has piled up over the years, asking “is it possible that there has not been any public accounts since 1993?” Aoun called for replacing the incumbents with new faces in the upcoming elections, adding that he rejects the fact that people at the helm are covering up for the most flagrant infractions.
