REPORT: Greek Orthodox Christians mark the Good Friday

Christian denominations in Lebanon that follow the Eastern calendar celebrated the Good Friday under an atmosphere of prayers and religious songs.                     

In Jerusalem, thousands of Orthodox Christians took to the narrow streets of Jerusalem's Old City in a somber procession to mark Good Friday.                                        

The pilgrims walked along the 14 stations of the "Via Dolorosa", Latin for "Way of the Suffering", retracing what tradition says were Jesus' last steps before his crucifixion.         

The Good Friday procession ended at the Church of the Holy Sepulcher, where many Christians believe Jesus was crucified and buried before his resurrection on Easter Sunday.
            
As for Greece, the Holy Friday ritual in Athens began with a four-hour ceremony inside the Church of Penteli where believers listened to psalms and kissed a depiction of the body of Christ nailed to a cross.            

Nearly one-thousand believers from different parts of Athens attended the ceremony, led by the Bishop of Thermopylae, Ioannis.                

Following the ceremony inside the church, the priests led the believers towards a hill near the church, where a brass band played funeral hymns.
