Geagea: Parliament suggestions are nothing new

The Head of the Lebanese Forces Samir Geagea wished the draft law on Lebanese taking refuge in Israel put forth by the Kataeb party would have been retained since it represents a drastic solution, adding that the current law does not provide the desired answer.    

In a press conference in Meerab, Geagea said that the suggestions echoing in Parliament do not bring anything new to the table.  

“As soon as women and children are investigated, they are set free while men are immediately referred to specialized courts. Therefore, the new law neither changes the bitter reality nor provides anything new”, Geagea said.  

Speaking on the current government, Geagea said that Mikati’s cabinet does not have what it takes to continue, urging them to resign. Mikati added that with every dawning day the cabinet is harming the country.    

Geagea refused to comment on the realignment of MP Walid Jumblatt, saying: “Time will be the judge”. Geagea praised the stances taken by the National Struggle Front MPs as to the abduction of Syrian opposition figures from Lebanon.  

“The kidnappings are a disgrace for every person that has partaken in them, contributed in anyway or presented a cover-up for the criminals”, Geagea added.  

On Syria, Geagea said that the Syrian regime will not be able to implement the Arab League plan, stressing that the plan is simply a propaganda tool. 

 “The regime won’t even withdraw troops from the streets and will not allow international organizations or Arab and international media outlets to enter Syria. I think that is enough proof that it is not serious about the Arab initiative”, Geagea said  

Geagea also criticized the premeditated procrastination of the Accusatory Body in Beirut regarding the lawsuit filed by the Lebanese Forces against Pierre Daher who appealed the indictment as soon as it was issued.

Geagea said that one year has passed since the appeal was submitted, adding that by any standard, such an appeal should not take more than a few months. “The Lebanese Forces are doing everything possible to sue the people responsible for this procrastination”, Geagea said.
