FM Rajji heads to Rome and the Vatican for talks on Lebanon’s stability and international support

Lebanese Foreign Minister Youssef Rajji left Beirut for Rome and the Vatican on an official visit that will include meetings with Vatican Secretary of State Cardinal Pietro Parolin and Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani.

The visit comes amid repeated calls by Pope Leo XIV for peace in Lebanon, as well as the diplomatic efforts quietly led by the Holy See to support the establishment of a functioning state in Lebanon and preserve the country as a place of human dignity, freedom, and religious and cultural coexistence.

On the Italian side, discussions will focus on Italy’s interest in strengthening stability in Lebanon and Rome’s role within the European Union on the Lebanese file.

In this context, Rajji is expected to discuss with Tajani Italy’s continued military support for the Lebanese Army and its active contribution to the UNIFIL peacekeeping force as one of its leading contributors.

Talks are also expected to address Rome’s readiness to back any Lebanese proposal that could replace or complement UNIFIL’s role in maintaining stability south of the Litani River.
