MP Aoun hopes Constitutional Council does not commit ‘historical mistake’

Change and Reform bloc leader MP Michel Aoun said on Friday that "the parliament has been paralyzed since the assassination of former General Security chief Brigadier General Wissam al-Hasan,” pointing out that all kinds of electoral draft laws were submitted.              

During an exceptional meeting held in Rabieh to discuss the extension of the parliament’s mandate and the appeal drafted by caretaker Labor Minister Salim Jreissati to be presented to the Constitutional Council, MP Aoun said that “Lebanese parties came up with an electoral law tailored for their own needs," he said in reference to final law proposed by the Future bloc, the Lebanese Forces and the Progressive Socialist Party.                    

Aoun added that deputies rejected the proportional electoral law, the Orthodox Gathering draft law and the hybrid draft law submitted by Speaker Berri, noting that the Constitutional Council will be facing a facing a major challenge.      

In this regard, Aoun expressed his hope that the Constitutional Council does not commit a “historical mistake” in terms of rejecting the appeal.
