President Aoun congratulates Central Bank governor on election as head of Arab Monetary Fund board

Lebanon’s President Joseph Aoun received Central Bank Governor Karim Souaid at Baabda Palace on Saturday, where he was briefed on the discussions and atmosphere of the Arab Monetary Fund Board of Governors meeting and on Souaid’s election as chairman of the board.

President Aoun congratulated Souaid on his election, describing it as a significant achievement, particularly at a critical stage as Lebanon seeks economic recovery and financial reform. He said the election reflects strong Arab confidence in Lebanese expertise and reinforces Lebanon’s active role in regional financial institutions.

He added that the trust granted to the central bank governor at this high-level Arab platform reflects recognition of his role in the reform process and provides moral support for Lebanon’s economic recovery efforts.

For his part, Souaid thanked the president for his support, saying he would carry Lebanon’s interests into his new role and work to strengthen ties with Arab financial institutions in a way that supports economic recovery and helps restore confidence in the Lebanese economy amid the ongoing war.
