Tripoli’s Alawites are Lebanese, but their hearts still lie with Assad

Tripoli’s neighborhoods are divided between partisans and opponents of Syrian President Bashar Assad.

In Jabal Mohsen, home to the majority of Lebanon's Alawites, pictures of Assad can be seen everywhere, while KSA flags and photos of Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan are proudly displayed in the Sunni-dominated neighborhood of Bab al-Tebbaneh.

Those two areas have a history laden with enmity and battles, the latest being the dispute over incidents in Syria.

While Jabal Mohsen’s Alawites look forward to a solution that maintains and entrenches the continuity of the Syrian regime, the area’s residents assure that they do not fear for their fate if the regime in Syria falls.
