Aoun: Mutual accusations and threats do not solve Tripoli’s escalating crisis

Change and Reform Bloc Leader MP Michel Aoun expressed on Tuesday his astonishment regarding the escalating crisis between Tripoli’s Jabal Mohsen and Bab el-Tebaneh, adding that “the situation may not be solved by mutual accusations and threats.”          

Following the bloc’s weekly meeting, MP Aoun said that the situation in Tripoli is ‘unacceptable’, and called on the Intelligence Apparatus to reveal the truths behind these attacks.                 

Aoun condemned the assassination attempts against Sheikhs Maher Hamoud and Ibrahim Braidy and mentioned that “the security situation deteriorated following the extension of the parliament’s mandate”.             

On the electoral file, MP Aoun said that “the Constitutional Council should accept the appeal raised by the Free Patriotic Movement or else it has to bear the responsibility of its decisions”.         

In response to a question, MP Aoun said that FPM deputies will not resign; thus reiterating his rejection to the 1960 electoral law and the extension of the parliament’s mandate and describing them as “unsatisfactory."
