Envisioned by imaginative French architect Jacques Rougerie, this is the floating city of Mériens.
It is designed to provide scientists with a place to live whilst conducting research on the ocean and marine biodiversity.
The innovative research facility would house up to 7,000 scientists and students from all over the world in an area stretching over 900 meters by 500 meters.
I would also offer an array of laboratories, classrooms, lecture halls, living quarters, and areas dedicated for leisure activities and sports in order to facilitate long-term research projects.
The city concept would also have ‘wings’ that would be a space for hydroponic greenhouses so that the residents can grow fruit and vegetables.
On top of all these features, the City of Mériens is designed to be totally sustainable, produce zero waste and run entirely on renewable marine energy.
