Syrian FM Spokesman: I hope the ambassadors return with good intensions

The spokesman of the Syrian Foreign Ministry Jihad Makdisi held a brief press conference on Wednesday afternoon to clarify several pending issues such as the Syrian response to the Arab League and the return of several foreign ambassadors to Damascus.

Asked about the current status of the Arab Protocol Makdisi revealed that Syria has already submitted its reservations and comments regarding this protocol, adding that Syria is now waiting for the Arab League’s position.

Asked about US State Department spokesman Mark Toner mocking Assad’s interview  on ABC with Barbara Walters Makdisi said” We are not surprised by such stances, they will comment on whatever we say or do, so let us wait for the entire interview before commenting on its sound bites”.

On the return of the German, French and US ambassador to Damascus he said “I hope these ambassadors come with good intentions carrying positive messages from their governments”.

“I think that the US ambassador Robert Ford is aware of the current situation in Syria, I hope the thanksgiving holiday gave him enough time to review the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations to understand his duties and rights”. 

Asked about the current situation in Homs and other Syrian areas he commented “We are at the Foreign Ministry here, we don’t deal with military or security issues”

“I hope Clinton’s meeting with the Syrian opposition in Turkey was positive and beneficial, maybe they will be convinced to return to Syria and realize that the solution can only be issued here’.
