Tunisia's new president will visit the White House next month.
The White House says President Barack Obama plans to underscore the U.S. commitment to strengthening ties with Tunisia after President Beji Caid Essebsi was elected in December following the country's transition to democracy.
Tunisians overthrew their former dictator in 2011 and kicked off pro-democracy uprisings around the region in what became known as the Arab Spring.
The White House says Obama and Essebsi will discuss continued consolidation of Tunisia's democracy, security cooperation and economic reforms. They also plan to discuss regional developments, including the uprising in Libya and terrorist threats.
An attack last month at Tunisia's National Bardo Museum killed 22 people, mostly foreign tourists. The Islamic State group claimed responsibility.
