World leaders adopted a 15-year plan to tackle the world’s biggest problems, from eradicating poverty to preserving the planet to reducing inequality, at the UN Sustainable Development Goals conference.
During the summit, 150 presidents and prime ministers determined 17 goals for sustainable developments to be achieved by 2030.
Reactions:
UN Secretary General Ban Ki Moon stressed that “the 2030 Agenda compels us to look beyond national boundaries and short-term interests and act in solidarity for the long-term."
Nobel Peace laureate and education activist, Pakistani 18-year-old Malala Yousafzai called on all governments to keep their promise in guaranteeing education for all.
In turn, German Chancellor Angela Merkel called for addressing the reasons leading to migration of refugees fleeing horror and violence, stressing that peace is a pre-requisite for all development goals.
For his part, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi welcomed setting the issue of the climate change among the priorities, hoping that the developed countries will their vows.
