Arab Foreign Ministers held emergency talks on Monday to condemn Israel for the recent eruption of violence in the region.
A steady rise in street violence, which Israeli and Palestinian leaders have sought to calm, has been fueled by confrontations around Jerusalem's al Aqsa mosque complex, Islam's third holiest shrine which Jews also revere as the vestige of their two ancient temples.
The Riyadh meeting took place as Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu met with US President Barack Obama in Washington.
Arab Foreign Ministers discussed ways to forward the stalled peace plan, eventual action by the Arab group in the United Nations Security Council and mechanisms for the implementation of UN Security Council resolutions. The international protection for the Palestinians was also on the agenda.
The meeting in Riyadh took place on the sidelines of a Summit of South American-Arab Countries scheduled for Tuesday (November 10). Ahead of the summit, the ministers met with their South American counterparts.
