Famed wax museum Madame Tussauds opens in the Middle East

In an Arabic-themed setting full of palm trees and Dubai's skylines, one of London's most loved tourist attractions, Madame Tussauds, last week opened its doors for the first time in Dubai and the Middle East.

Sixteen of the sixty figures on display at the attraction were made exclusively for the Arab-themed museum including artists, athletes, and entertainers from the region.

Some of the new addition wax-figures are of Lebanese singer Nancy Ajram, Arabic singer Balqees Ahmed Fathi and Emirati weightlifter Amina Al Haddad.

The space is divided into different zones, each with a theme ranging from royalty to sports, and passing through politics, fashion, art, music cinema and entertainment.

Making the wax-figures come to life is not an easy job, according to Sanaz Kollsrud, the general manager for Madame Tussauds Dubai.

"Making a single wax figure takes around four to seven months, there is twenty skilled artists involved in making the figures," Kollsrud said while inside the attraction.

Dubai, the region's tourism and business hub, is hoping to attract millions to the Expo 2020 world fair, which opened earlier in October, after a year-long delay due to the coronavirus pandemic.
