REPORT: Israeli-Egyptian armies cooperate as protests challenge Morsi

In light of the Egyptian protests and calls on President Mohammad Morsi to step down, alertness of Israeli political and military authorities increased and agendas of these institutions were modified.

In this regard, Israeli authorities granted Egyptian soldiers the right to deploy along the border facing the Gaza strip and along the border towards the Sinai Peninsula for fears that the al-Qaeda and other hardline groups may benefit from the unstable security conditions to carry out operations against Israel.

The authorities stressed that movements of the Egyptian military along the borders are being held in cooperation with the Israel Army Command and do not breach security agreements between the 2 countries.

On another note, the Israeli army command intensified the deployment of its forces along the northern and southern borders with Syria, setting out defense systems along the border at the Golan Heights, and restoring various military checkpoints.

This report will shed light on the Egyptian-Israeli cooperation in light of ongoing protests in Egypt.
