REPORT: Syrian opposition chief visits Daraa for Eid

A source from the Syrian national coalition told AFP that the Syrian opposition chief Ahmad Jarba visited reef Daraa near the Jordan border on Thursday to attend the Muslim Eid al-Fitr feast.

The source, who spoke on condition of anonymity, added that Jarba participated in Eid al-Fitr prayers in Daraa, and made a tour where he was accompanied by Colonel Ahmad Fahd al-Nehme, who heads Daraa's (rebel) military council.

On the international level, US President Barack Obama and Turkish PM Recep Tayyib Erdogan held talks during a phone call and discussed the situations in Syria and Egypt, according to a statement issued by the White House.

During the talks that were held upon an initiative from Erdogan, the officials stressed the need to support a united opposition, expressing their concern regarding the threat posed by the foreign extremists in Syria, the White House statement added.
