REPORT: MP Aoun says will always oversee certain issues related to the FPM

Change and Reform Bloc Leader MP Michel Aoun announced that officials have decided to hold a meeting for the bloc at the al-Qalaa Monastery (Our Lady of the Fortress Monastery, Beit Mery) on the 11th of December.      

Following the bloc's weekly meeting on Tuesday, MP Aoun questioned Prime Minister-Designate Tammam Salam's authority in terms of the cabinet formation "without the prior consultation of parliamentary blocs," adding that such an issue is unacceptable.              

"According to the constitution, the formation of the cabinet is not limited to the PM-Designate since it is a body that represents deputies," MP Aoun said.            

In this context, MP Aoun said that the cabinet has not yet been formed due to preconditions being set by the PM-Designate.             

MP Aoun noted that following the resignation of the cabinet that various parties discussed the issue of Lebanon's oil and gas reserve.           

In this regard, MP Aoun said he would not discuss the issue in a personal manner, but however pointed out to discourse that had erupted on the backdrop of the rotation of administrative portfolios.        

On another note, MP Aoun said that in the event of his resignation as leader of the Free Patriotic Movement leader, he will always overlook certain issues, stressing that FPM officials will ensure the continuity of the movement.                 

On the Syrian file, MP Aoun said a mass will be held today (Tuesday) for the souls of Maaloula's martyrs.                   

The Greek Orthodox Patriarchate of Antioch and All the East issued on Tuesday an appeal to urge the Syrian Red Crescent, the International Committee of the Red Cross and the governmental and non-governmental organizations (NGOs) to aid the Syrian Christian town of Maaloula.         

The appeal called on humanitarian organizations to send aid to the historic Saint Takla monastery.
