REPORT: Cautious calm prevails in Baalbek, LAF conducts motorized patrols

      
Cautious calm prevailed on Sunday in the city of Baalbek, while shops and markets closed their doors.                    

The Lebanese army is conducting motorized patrols inside the city, as well as establishing checkpoints and inspecting cars, a day after five people were killed in clashes between Hezbollah members and al-Chiyah family.                    

This as caretaker Interior Minister Marwan Charbel told Voice of Lebanon radio (93.3) that the army's sixth battalion took over all Hezbollah checkpoints mainly the ones set up at the entrances of Baalbek in order to maintain security in the city.                     

Meanwhile, gunmen are roaming the streets of Baalbek pending the funeral of yesterday's victims.         

Calm was restored Saturday evening in the Bekaa city of Baalbek after armed clashes erupted in the city's commercial market, where witnesses reported hearing RPG strikes and gunfire in the Nasser Square and in the vicinity of the al-Chams Cinema, near the location of an incident that occurred earlier between a citizen from the Chiyah family and members from Hezbollah.
