REPORT: Maallaka-Karak residents cut off road in protest of abduction of local pharmacist

Kidnappers of pharmacist Wissam al-Khatib demanded on Monday a ransom of 1 Million US$ in exchange of the latter's release; however, residents of Maallaka-Karak responded to the kidnappers' demand by cutting off the main road of the city.

The state-run National News Agency reported on Sunday that unknown armed men kidnapped a pharmacist on Sunday morning in the city of Zahle.

The agency added that Wissam al-Khatib was abducted while he was opening his pharmacy located on the main road of the town of Karak.

Al-Khatib reportedly escaped an attempt to kidnap him one month ago.
