REPORT: France's first lady visits Syrian refugee camp in Lebanon's Bekaa

Valerie Trierweiler, the partner of French President Francois Hollande, visited a Syrian refugee camp in East Lebanon on Tuesday.      

Accompanied by caretaker Minister of Social Affairs Wael Abou Faour and other delegates, Trierweiler met refugees at the Tell Delhamiya camp in the Bekaa Valley, and met with a delegation representing the UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR).       

"We know, Lebanon is paying a heavy price due to the hospitality of refugees, around a quarter of its population now consists of Syrian refugees. I think that the entire international community must now share this problem," Trierweiler said, following the visit.         

She said that the UNHCR and other NGOs could not be expected to continue dealing with the situation without more help from the international community. 

Following the visit to Tell Delhamiya camp, Trierweiler visited a school in Beirut hosting Syrian students where she chatted with them and their teachers.        

She was accompanied on the school visit by caretaker Education Minister Hassan Diab.
