REPORT: Calm prevails in Tripoli, LAF soldiers arrest 4 citizens

The Lebanese Army Command announced that it arrested on Wednesday morning 4 gunmen on charges of committing criminal acts and sniping on civilians and soldiers in Tripoli.

The 4 men were identified as Ahmad Yehia Saoud, Jaafar Housein Tamer, Ahmad Mohammad Riad al-Hajj, and Salah Abdel Hamid Mohammad.

Meanwhile, calm prevails in the northern city of Tripoli after more than 11 persons were killed and around 100 were wounded in the 18th round of violence.

The Lebanese Armed Forces soldiers deployed in various regions across the city, conducted patrols and installed checkpoints to check passengers' identity. They also raided neighborhoods in a bid to arrest fugitives.

This as, traffic was reported as normal with schools and universities opening their doors.
On Tuesday, the Amy Command issued a statement on in which it announced that 21 persons from Tripoli's Jabal Mohsen and Bab el-Tabbaneh were arrested on charges of committing criminal acts, noting that 8 of whom were referred by the Intelligence Directorate to the military prosecution.

The port city of Tripoli has long been a stronghold of Sunni Islamists in northern Lebanon.
But the city has become increasingly volatile in recent months due to the civil war in neighboring Syria, where the Sunni majority is leading a revolt against President Bashar al-Assad.
Disputes from neighboring Syria's civil war frequently inflame sectarian grievances in Tripoli. These clashes pit gunmen from both the mostly Sunni Bab Tabbaneh district and the Jabal Mohsen district which mostly comprises residents of Syrian President Bashar Assad's Alawite sect, a Shiite Islam offshoot.

Tensions had been mounting since 14 October, when a Lebanese military prosecutor pressed charges against seven men, at least one of whom was from Jabal Mohsen, for their involvement in twin bombings near two Sunni mosques in Tripoli on 23 August that killed 47 people.
