REPORT: Charbel, Qortbawi inspect Roumieh prison, search operations to be carried out

Caretaker Interior Minister Marwan Charbel and caretaker Justice Minister Shakib Qortbawi toured Roumieh prison on Wednesday and listened to the inmates' needs, noting that efforts will be exerted in order to improve their conditions.

“A search of the facility will be carried out on a weekly basis," Charbel said during a press conference.

"We will eliminate violations at the jail and all prohibited material will be confiscated," he said, adding that "the jail is not a place of punishment, but a place to reform prisoners".

In turn, Qortbawi said efforts will be exerted to expedite the trial of inmates, stressing that any person involved in corruption at the Roumieh prison will be held accountable.
