REPORT: Iran's Zarif meets Lebanese officials, discusses latest local developments

 
Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif expressed on Monday his relief regarding the positive atmosphere prevailing over Lebanon, praising the role played by Lebanese President Michel Sleiman in terms of efforts exerted to form a new cabinet.   

During his meeting with President Sleiman at the Baabda Presidential Palace, Iran's Zarif stressed the importance of ending violence in Syria, expressing his hope that the Geneva II peace conference leads to positive solutions and a better future for Syria.                             

Zarif added that "Iran will keep on putting forth its efforts to improve the situation in the Middle East and in Lebanon even if it were not invited to the Geneva conference."           

Iran's Zarif also met on Monday House Speaker Nabih Berri at his residence in Ain el-Tineh in the presence of caretaker Foreign Affairs Minister Adnan Mansour.  

During the meeting, the Iranian diplomat handed Speaker Berri an official invitation from the Head of the Islamic Shura Council of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Ali Larijani, to visit Iran.          

Following his meeting with Berri, Zarif headed to Msaytbe where he met with Prime Minister-Designate Tammam Salam in the presence of Iranian Ambassador to Lebanon Ghadanfar Rokenabadi. 

Minister Zarif also held another round of talks with his Lebanese counterpart caretaker Minister Adnan Mansour.
