REPORT: Minister Jreissati says contract workers will not be discharged

A meeting was held on Wednesday at the Labor Ministry between caretaker Labor Minister Salim Jreissati and a delegation from KVA Company comprised of Jamal Hatoum, Nicolas Mrad, Maher Itani, and Antoine Safi.

Following the meeting, Minister Jressati said that there wouldn't be any discharge of any employee from KVA before discussing the matter with the ministry of Labor.

Upon this decision, contract workers at EDL said that they will resume work at their companies.

On Tuesday, EDL contract workers blocked the Dora highway in both directions, causing a severe traffic jam and leaving citizens stranded in their cars.

The contract workers were protesting seemingly since KVA Company sacked a number of workers.

EDL workers also vowed to take escalatory steps in order to put pressure on the operating company to stop the alleged arbitrary expulsions.

EDL contract workers have been protesting for months calling on the government to employ them as full-time staff and to pay their salaries.
