REPORT: Army Commander: LAF will not give up right to impose stability

The Lebanese Armed Forces Chief General Jean Qahwaji stressed Friday that the main duties undertaken by the army over the past few months come within the line of counter-terrorism, dismantling terrorist networks and handing assailants over to the concerned judiciary, noting that the army does not fight anyone based on their ideology, but based on the attacks carried out against citizens and military personnel.

“The latest terrorist and suicide attacks that rocked various Lebanese regions are completely rejected by all and given the difficulty of the situation, the army will raise its state of alertness and tighten its measures in order to impose security,” he said.

Following a series of meetings with officers, Qahwaji noted that Lebanon is witnessing a state of volatility, declaring that army forces will not give up their right to impose stability and prevent self-imposed security.

“Our decision to prevent strife in Lebanon is firm, we will prevent any region from being dragged into chaos,” he stated.

In this context, the army chief pointed out that the support granted by the International Community to the army is considered an important responsibility, stressing that no one must build a relationship with army officers for political or personal interests.
