REPORT: Lebanon bids farewell to poet Ounsi El Hage

A funeral mass was held on Thursday for the soul of the poet and journalist Ounsi El Hage, whereby President Michel Sleiman granted him the National Order of Cedar Medal.

The funeral was chaired by Beirut Maronite Archbishop Boulos Matar and was attended by Culture Minister Rony Oreiji representing President Sleiman, Speaker Nabih Berri and PM Tammam Salam, Information Minister Ramzi Jreij, former ministers and several dignitaries.

Lebanese poet and writer Ounsi El-Hage died on Monday aged 77.

The late poet started his writing career in the mid-1950s, and published numerous works of poetry and books between 1960 and 1994. He was also an editor-in-chief for various Arab magazines.

Ounsi's works were translated into a number of languages including English, French, German, Italian, Spanish, Portuguese, Finnish, and Armenian.
