REPORT: Families of Lebanese held in Syria stage sit-in in Downtown Beirut
The families of Lebanese nationals held in Syrian jails staged a sit-in on Friday whereby they called for the referral of their case to the Director General of General Security Major General Abbas Ibrahim.

"The families of missing Lebanese citizens have the right to know the fate of their sons," Change and Reform bloc MP Ghassan Mkhayber said speaking from Downtown Beirut where the protest was held.

He also called for the establishment of an independent body to follow up on this dossier.

Maj. Gen. Abbas Ibrahim had revealed, months ago, that he would seek to reopen the file of Lebanese held in Syrian prisons and resolve the case of the two bishops kidnapped in Syria.

Ibrahim also said he had promised Lebanese political and religious figures to seek the release of Bishops Youhanna Ibrahim and Boulos Yazigi, who were kidnapped in Syria at the end of April.

He added that he had also vowed to reveal the fate of hundreds of Lebanese thought to be held in Syria since the end of Lebanon's 15-year civil war.
