Education Minister Elias Bou Saab stressed Wednesday that the official exams and the academic year will be at risk, should the Parliament fail to pass the series of ranks and salaries within a two-week deadline.
Following his meeting with a delegation from the Union Coordinating Committee at the education ministry, Bou Saab confirmed the demands of the teachers as rightful, noting that “the discussions pertaining to the pay scale should have been conducted earlier.”
For his part, the head of the UCC Hanna Gharib said that “rights cannot be subject to negotiations; otherwise they will vanish.”
In this regard, he said that the UCC set April 29 as a day of strike and protests, to exert pressure on the authorities to finalize the issue of the pay scale.
In turn, head of the Private Schools Teachers Association Nehme Mahfoud hoped that the committee tasked with discussing the series will carry out its duty within the aforementioned deadline.
