REPORT: Sit-in held at the Nejmeh Square in support of al-Jadeed and al-Akhbar
Several MPs arrived to the Nejmeh Square on Wednesday to partake in the sit-in held in support of al-Jadeed and al-Akhbar.

MP Rahme  and Loyalty to the Resistance bloc MP Hassan Fadlallah said that they came to parliament in a show of support to al-Jadeed and al-Akhbar.

For his part, Change and Reform bloc MP Nabil Nicolas voiced his support to the freedom of the press, adding that media freedom is a red line that cannot be crossed "so long as it reports the truth as it is."

On Monday, Lebanese officials stood in solidarity with the two journalists summoned by the STL.

Officials representing various media outlets, unions and lawyers as well as several MPs attended the “Defending Media Freedom” gathering held at the Journalists' Association in Beirut.

Last Thursday, the Special Tribunal for Lebanon summoned the editor of Al-Akhbar newspaper Ibrahim Al-Amin and that of Al-Jadeed television Karma Mohamed Tahsin al-Khayat, accusing them of contempt and obstructing justice by publishing the names of alleged witnesses.

The Special Tribunal for Lebanon was set up by the United Nations at the Lebanese government's request to try the alleged perpetrators of the 2005 bombing in which former Lebanese Prime Minister Rafik Hariri and 21 others were killed.
