Clashes erupt between Syrian gunmen, Hezbollah members in Bekaa

Clashes broke out on Saturday between Syrian gunmen and Hezbollah members in Britel’s barren range.

A number of gunmen, who tried to infiltrate from Syria into the Lebanese town of Britel, were killed during the clashes.

The Bekaa region repeatedly witnessed clashes between Hezbollah and Syrian fighters since the beginning of the uprising in Syria.

Later in the day, the "Free Sunnis of Baalbek Brigade” said via its twitter account that "its free fighters are making Hezbollah suffer losses in the Britel plains."

"The day in which we will raise the banner of Islam in Britel is near, and our battle against Hezbollah is open-ended until we clear the Islamic Emirate of the Bekaa of the party,” it added.

Also on Saturday, the Lebanese Armed Forces arrested a corporal in the army in Bekaa’s Maarboun plains.

The LAF member was transferring three al-Nusra Front gunmen in a car without any legal identification documents.
