The security forces’ attempt came after the said gang started forcing new inmates to pay money in order to be allowed to sleep inside prison cells.
Following the implementation of security measures on the backdrop of these actions, the remaining members of the gang, along with a number of inmates, provoked riots and chaos in the prison’s convicts building on Friday night, where they destroyed the doors and cells.
Accordingly, the security forces opened fire in the air to disperse the prisoners and stormed the convicts building where they clashed with the rioters, leaving several injured and transported to Daher al-Basheq Hospital for treatment, well-informed sources said.
The sources added that the Internal Security Forces transported 28 prisoners from the convicts building to other buildings in order to prevent further riots, while the concerned authorities launched investigations into the case under the supervision of the military public prosecution.
