REPORT: PM Salam launches campaign to support communities hosting Syrian refugees
Prime Minister Tammam Salam inaugurated Tuesday the launching ceremony of the campaign aiming at supporting the Lebanese fund founded to help the communities hosting Syrian refugees.

A number of political and diplomatic figures attended the ceremony, during which Salam delivered a speech, whereby he hoped that this campaign will raise the required awareness concerning the issue of Syrian refugees.

Lebanon already hosts more than 1.1 million Syrian refugees, an enormous strain for a country with a population of just four million.

Not all Syrian refugees enter Lebanon through official crossings, however, with many traversing the porous and difficult-to-patrol frontier.

The influx has tested overstretched infrastructure and limited resources and created fresh tensions.

Politicians have long warned Lebanon cannot continue to shoulder such a disproportionate refugee burden, and calls for the closure of the border with Syria have increased after numerous security incidents.
