REPORT: Speaker Berri urges officials to take measures to protect Lebanon’s oil

Speaker Nabih Berri called on all civilians not to interfere in the issue of the abducted soldiers, noting that the main issue related to this dossier lies in the “committee tasked with the crisis.”

Commenting on the dialogue to be held between Hezbollah and the Future Movement, Berri declared that he is still optimistic in this regard, stressing that the procedures are moving in the right direction.

Referring to the recently revealed contacts between Greece, Cyprus and Israel concerning cooperation for oil exploration, Berri revealed that Lebanon is currently facing a new threat represented by the attempts to steal its oil reserve, “while officials remain entangled over the current presidential vacuum,” as he said.

“We must take serious and practical measures in order to defend and invest in our oil reserve,” Berri urged.

Earlier this week, Berri had told Al-Akhbar newspaper that he received credible information from an “international scientist” that Israel had started stealing gas from one of Lebanon’s underwater reserves in an area close to the southern border with Israel.
