REPORT: Arsal deputy mayor says may visit Arsal’s barren range ‘at any moment’

Ahmad al-Fliti, Arsal’s deputy mayor, told LBCI on Wednesday that he may visit the town’s barren range at any moment even before receiving the cabinet's answer to demands issued by the Islamic State group to secure the release of the kidnapped Lebanese troops.

Fliti added he was formally told to seek utmost secrecy on the Arsal captives dossier.

The hostage troops and policemen were captured when jihadists from the Nusra Front and the Islamic State militant groups briefly overran the border town of Arsal in August and engaged in fierce battles with the Lebanese army.

Four captives have so far been executed, and the jihadists have threatened to kill the remaining hostages unless there is a deal to free Islamist prisoners in Lebanon.
