REPORT: Thousands of vehicles stuck in snowy French Alps
Some 15,000 vehicles were stuck in the French Alps on Saturday (December 27) as heavy snow blanketed roads leading up to the country's popular ski resorts during one of the busiest crossover days of the season.    

Regional authorities said they had activated an emergency plan to re-house stranded holidaymakers who were unable to reach the vacation hotspots.     

Images shot in Brides les Bains by local resident Eric Bouvier showed snarled up traffic of cars and coaches on the route up to the famous French ski resort of Courchevel.     

The French Interior Ministry said one person had died in the bad weather and that roads from many ski resorts were blocked in both directions, preventing people who had spent Christmas week in the mountains from reaching airports and train stations.      

The Ministry said 20 locations were being opened to welcome the stranded holidaymakers.
