10-day ceasefire between Lebanon and Israel has taken effect

The 10-day ceasefire agreement between Lebanon and Israel has taken effect at 00:00 midnight Beirut time (April 16, 2026), as part of a U.S.-brokered understanding following direct talks between the two sides.

Under the agreement, and with international support, the Government of Lebanon is expected to take effective steps to prevent Hezbollah and other non-state armed groups from carrying out any attacks, operations, or hostile activities against Israeli targets.

The ceasefire is intended as an initial measure to reduce hostilities and create conditions for further negotiations between Lebanon and Israel on security arrangements and broader stability along the border.
