REPORT: Arsal residents protest against LAF measures, block road at town’s entrance
Arsal residents blocked on Monday the road at the town’s entrance to voice their rejection to security measures implemented by the Lebanese Armed Forces.    

This comes after the army opened fire into the air to disperse a number of people who gathered at Arsal’s Wadi Hmeid checkpoint to protest against LAF security measures.  

Three protesters were wounded and five others were detained.         

In the same regard, military sources told LBCI that "around 150 young men from Arsal have started a dispute with members of the Wadi Hmeid checkpoint despite the fact that the army was facilitating their access".   

On Sunday, the Lebanese army also dispersed demonstrators who blocked the road of Ain al-Shaab region in the border town of Arsal to object tight security measures set to be taken at the beginning of the new year by the military institution.       

Media reports stated that around two hundred people blocked the road to protest the measures that the army tends to implement in the region in order to suppress gunmen from al-Qaeda-linked al-Nusra Front and the Islamic State who are entrenched on the outskirts of the border town of Arsal.
