The 19th parliamentary session scheduled to elect a president was delayed until March 11, due to lack of quorum, as only 56 deputies attended.
From the Parliament, member of the Kataeb bloc Elie Marouni said that “the country has entered into a state of fatal routine,” adding that the issue of the presidential elections has been forgotten amid the rule of a cabinet that includes 24 presidents.
“The only party responsible for the presidential vacuum is the party hindering the parliamentary quorum,” he said.
Lebanon has been plunged into a presidential vacuum after Michel Sleiman's mandate ended on May 25 with rival political blocs still divided over a new leader.
