REPORT: Salafist cleric Deqmaq released following brief detention
Salafist cleric Sheikh Bilal Deqmaq on Tuesday was released from custody after being arrested by the General Security last week.

Deqmaq was detained at the Beirut–Rafic Hariri International Airport when he was deported from Turkey.

“[State Commissioner to the Military Court] Judge Saqr Saqr ordered Deqmaq’s release since no terrorist charges had been filed against him,” sources said, adding “the cleric was only charged with the possession of an unlicensed weapon”.

“You can find weapons in all houses,” Deqmaq told LBCI on Tuesday, saying he wouldn’t have been released that quickly had his case been linked to terror charges.
